Clearly explains very complex topics. Highly recommended if you want to quickly understand difficult subjects.

Mr. Gussman is an incredible physics teacher/tutor. He knows how to break down a complex subject into bite size parts that make it much easier to learn and, honestly, exciting to learn. Before I met Mr. Gussman, I was intimidated and disinterested by physics; after, I felt confident and excited to delve into physics and its applications in life. When he was my teacher, he taught me not only how to tackle particular physics problems but how various concepts work together to make physics what it is. He also gave me a strong understanding of the applicability of physics in my daily life; I’ll never forget the compelling experiments we got to execute to experience physics in action. Mr. Gussman is an incredible teacher overall, demonstrating patience, commitment, enthusiasm as well as dedication to each and every one of his students. His goal at the end of the day is for his students to feel confident enough in their own skills that perhaps they would one day be able to help a peer tackle a complex physics problem. He is one of the best teachers I have ever had and probably will ever have! He helped me become not just more confident as a physics student but as a person overall. If you are considering getting tutored by him, don't. even. hesitate. You have found your guy.

He has been tutoring me this semester for college level physics 2. Given that I am not a preengineering student, I didn't take classes that would make my grasp of the material as efficient as my cohorts. He has provided me with excellent tools for memorization and understanding the concepts.

I’ve been a student in high-school, college, and graduate school; a professor of undergrad & grad students; a high-school teacher; and a parent of two high-school and college students. Grant Gussman is simply the finest educator I’ve encountered. He is my model for how to combine a mastery of the curriculum material, design of teaching plans and course structure, pedagogical approaches that meet the needs of students at all levels, and creative & dynamic lessons and exercises that bring content to life in the classroom.
Grant taught Physics to our two daughters at the prestigious Benjamin Franklin High School in New Orleans – consistently ranked at the top high school in the state. In a school full of outstanding, dedicated, talented instructors, he was the best teacher either of our daughters had in their combined 7 years at BFHS. After completing their Introductory Physics class with Grant, both signed up for every subsequent physics course he taught and went on to score 5s on AP Physics C exams. He kindled an intense interest in physics in our older daughter, who went on to major in physics in college, and wrote an award- and scholarship-winning college essay on the way studying forces and mechanics helped her understand the principles of her favorite sports – sailing and martial arts.
Grant is an expert in tailoring his instruction to students’ level of experience and skill – teaching effectively to the most advanced students, those who are struggling with the material, and those in the middle. His passion for teaching and learning is obvious and infectious, and his ability to relate physics and math concepts to everyday life helps make the course material real and relevant beyond the confines of the classroom or AP test preparation. It was always exciting to walk into his classroom, whether during or outside of class hours, and see all the creative and stimulating projects underway. When his students built towers from popsicle sticks, they needed to understand specific physics principles, incorporate those ideas into a new context, and test those concepts in a practical hands-on way. I also appreciated the way he brought his own personality and interests into the classroom, making it a bright, cheerful space where knowledge, love of learning, and curiosity are valued – not just in physics and math. I always smiled at his poster listing demonyms – terms for residents – of US states and countries around the world, which resulted from a classroom tangent one day. These skills made him an excellent mentor for students working on projects for science fair, and he coached many to successes at local, state, and international level competitions.
In addition to my experiences as a parent of Grant’s students, I also had the privilege of working with him as a colleague. I learned an enormous amount from him about how to engage students, meet them where they are academically, and relate to them as unique individuals.
I also know him to be a fine human, who cares about his students and colleagues as people. He is an upbeat, easygoing person who has compassion for students – he knows middle-school and high-school are difficult years for kids, and that everyone has a bad day from time to time. A semi-finalist for Louisiana Teacher of the Year, he’s superb at helping students achieve in the classroom and on standardized tests, but more importantly, he strives to give them tools for success in all aspects of life.
